Here's how you can add MX records to start using Microsoft 365

Step 1: Find and copy Microsoft 365 MX Records

  1. Login to Microsoft 365

  2. Go to Set up >> Domains

  3. Click on your default domain and copy the MX record address value.

PRO TIP:  If the domain is not connected, go to Settings> Domains, click on the added domain, and follow the wizard to find your MX records.

Step 2: Add MX Records to your Domain Name's DNS Settings

  1. Now login to your domain registrar, like Rocket Domains, GoDaddy, or any other registrar with whom you registered your domain name.

  2. Go to the DNS Management settings.

  3. Remove the MX records, if any.

  4. Click "Add a new MX record", and paste the MX record value you copied earlier from your Microsoft 365 admin center in the Points To box, enter @ in Host, and 0 in Priority box as shown in the following screenshot.

  5. In TTL (Time to Live) box, choose or add a value of 5 or 5 min, and hit Save.
It may take up to 24-48 hours for these DNS changes to propagate globally.

PRO TIP:  TIP: Change TTL to 5 minutes a few days before adding the MX records to your domain's DNS settings. This will complete the DNS propagation and update the MX records faster.

For 1 click integration with Microsoft 365, easier management, and free Rocket Cloud DNS giving your site bullet proof security, lightning fast DNS speeds and 100% uptime, transfer your domain to Rocket Domains.

Step 3: Verify that Microsoft 365 MX Records are working

Use DNS checking tools, such as DNSNAUT, to verify if the MX records have been added and propagated successfully.

  1. Open the web browser and go to DNSNAUT.

  2. Enter your domain name in the box, choose MX from the drop-down, and hit ‘FIND.’

  3. Check the MX records values on the right. You should be able to see the same MX Records which you previously added to your domain name's DNS settings.

It will also show if your MX records have successfully propagated globally.
If not, check again that your MX Records were copied and added correctly to your domain name's DNS settings.
If the records were added correctly, wait for a while and then check again as DNS propagation can take a few hours to complete.
